“I am interested in humans as animals. What we have been, what we are, and what we could be or might be, as our way of living changes…
It is important for me, and for others to experience the world directly. Today’s society requires communication not only to inform, but to entertain at the same time.
Through my work, I am looking at everyday life and death; and the ideas of entertainment, consumption, meaninglessness and loneliness are a part of that. Spectacle may be employed, particularly in my sculptural work, to engage, and to explore a sense of beauty, of futility, of passing time, and of the complexity and frailty of all things.”

Claire Morgan è un’artista nata nel 1980 a Belfast, nell’Irlanda del Nord. Ha frequentato la Ulster and Northumbria University, dove ha conseguito una laurea in scultura, e attualmente vive e lavora a Gateshead, nel nord-est dell’Inghilterra.
Le installazioni fragili e sospese della Morgan riflettono il suo interesse per i processi naturali e i materiali organici. Nelle sue opere rivela l’impossibilità di cogliere la complessità della vita e della morte, “Esplorare la fisicità degli animali, la morte, e le illusioni di permanenza nelle installazioni è il mio modo per cercare di venire io stessa a patti con queste cose”.

Le installazioni di Claire Morgan sono altamente dinamiche e accattivanti, molti degli animali nelle sue opere sembrano evocare la libertà, la potenzialità e vulnerabilità della vita. Claire Morgan is an artist born in 1980 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She attended the Ulster and Northumbria University, where she Achieved a first class degree in Sculpture, and currently lives and works in Gateshead, in the North East of England.
Morgan’s fragile and suspended installations reflect her interest in natural and organic materials processes. In her works she reveals the inability to grasp the complexity of life and death, “Exploring the physicality of animals, death, and illusions of permanence in the work is my way of trying to come to terms with these things myself”.
At the same time poetic and disturbing, the works of this artist express the ambivalence of life, and therefore of the existence time.
Claire Morgan’s installations are highly dynamic and compelling, many of the animals in her works seem to evoke freedom, potential and vulnerability of life. Suspended in vacuum are as frozen in space and time, in a perpetual time sometimes static and sometimes dynamic, parallel to that of the viewer, in turn indirectly involved in the work.
La Morgan spiega così l’installazione Fluid del 2009: “Fluid è un pezzo in cui un corvo sembra precipitare attraverso un denso piano di fragole di un rosso vivace. Il corvo è un esemplare di tassidermia, ma le fragole che lo circondano sono fresche e cominciano a decadere prima che il pezzo possa anche essere completamente installato, gocciolando il loro succo e la muffa su tutto il corvo, quindi è in conflitto con l’idea di ciò che la tassidermia è tradizionalmente, e con i nostri preconcetti su come potremmo relazionarci a ogni aspetto del lavoro. Gioca con il tempo e questo è un concetto sul quale sono interessata a spingere il più possibile”.
Morgan explains the Fluid installation of 2009 :“Fluid is a piece where a crow appears to be plummeting through a dense plane of vivid red strawberries. The crow is a taxidermy specimen, but the strawberries surrounding it are fresh and begin to decay before the piece can even be fully installed, dripping juices and mold all around the crow, thus conflicting with the notion of what taxidermy traditionally is, and our own preconceptions of how we might relate to each aspect of the work. It plays with time and this is a notion I am interested in pushing as far as I can”.
La Morgan espone a livello internazionale, con mostre personali in musei e gallerie nel Regno Unito e in Europa, e le sue opere sono incluse in mostre e musei negli Stati Uniti e in Australia.
